Why Degens?
In mathematics, a degenerate case is a limiting case of a class of objects which appears to be qualitatively different from the rest of the class.
Modern society has chosen to interpret ‘degenerate’ negatively – it’s often associated with recklessness, gambling, immorality and destructive behaviour.
Why? Because on the surface, it’s natural for us to find degeneracy scary. Those who exist outside of the normal confines of society are unpredictable. As a society we often strive for security and safety first, but we can’t make progress without some degenerates pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible.
Degens helped build the world. And they continue to push us forward by going places others are afraid to go. A perfect modern example is the Defi Degens of crypto.
Degen traders are willing to go above and beyond the normal risk appetite of trading a shitcoin by putting absurd amounts of capital on the line to farm, buy or trade brand new tokens with extreme degrees of risk…thats actually a good thing… Degens are helping to test the fringe use cases of DeFi by pushing it to its limit. It encourages development and experimentation which is a positive… In that regard they’re akin to Arctic explorers or volunteers in medical experiments.

Co-founders Andy and Elisabeth set out to start a firm specifically catered to helping Degens navigate the complex worlds of taxation for digital nomads, online businesses, content creators, tech startups and crypto investors.

Founder
Andy has a decade of experience in the financial industry. He has worked for some of the world’s largest accounting & consulting firms in London, a multinational in Shanghai, and an investment bank in Tokyo. He helps a wide range of corporate, high net worth individuals and startups with their global tax and financial planning. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2018, though now practises entirely outside of the UK thus is not currently a member of a UK body. He is an IRS registered tax professional.
Alongside his career he became interested in crypto in 2013. Combining this interest with his global finance and tax background, he developed the skills and knowledge to enable him to provide technical advice to crypto investors on how to structure and plan their global tax affairs.
In addition he offers tax services to a range of tech startups, digital nomads and content creators.
Elisabeth Lucas,
Co-founder
Elisabeth runs multiple e-commerce businesses and is an experienced software developer with coding skills in various languages including Python and SQL. She previously worked at one of the world’s largest investment managers after obtaining a degree in biomedical engineering.
Her in-depth knowledge of online business models and tech platforms enables her to provide unique insights and innovative solutions to clients with regards to wealth protection. She is also a recreational poker player.
